AIOREMA (back to project photos)

"Aiorema" is the Greek term for what is known in Latin as deus ex machina, or "God in the Machine". An aiorema was a crane used in ancient Greek theater to fly gods onstage. This version of an aiorema linked a new theater to an old building, just as the ancient concept was embodied in a new, sculptural marquee.

Aiorema's 415 layers of acrylic evolved a cloud shape at its base to a star shape against the sky. The sculpture was "post-tensioned" on three stainless steel threaded rods, which connected it to the footing.
